Neurodevelopmental Evaluations
Progressive ABA Therapy Group offers neurodevelopmental evaluations for early childhood conditions such as intellectual developmental disorders, global developmental delay, language delays, pragmatic language disorder, learning disorders, autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and behavioral disorders. These evaluations often include evaluating related areas/skills such as executive functioning, intelligence, adaptive/self-help skills, and emotional regulation.
All evaluations are conducted and supervised by Dr. Kris Brown, Psy.D. who is a licensed psychologist in Ohio (License P.08535) and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with a doctoral designation (BCBA-D).
What goes into an evaluation?
A complete evaluation has many parts. These include background information, medical history, educational history, behavioral observations during testing, and results of tests/assessments administered. This information is utilized to help the clinician evaluate the presence and intensity of symptoms while making a diagnosis.
What goes into an evaluation for autism spectrum disorder?
All kinds! Generally speaking, a comprehensive evaluation for autism spectrum disorder does not consist of a single test or measure. When completing a comprehensive autism assessment, other areas such as cognitive/intellectual skills, adaptive (self-help) skills, executive functioning, and motor skills should occur in addition to measures that look at autism-specific symptoms. This additional information is needed to help discern between autism and other conditions that appear in childhood like intellectual delays, global developmental delay, stereotypic movement disorder, or a language delay.
Direct observations is an important part of a comprehensive autism evaluation. Assessment of symptoms of autism should include direct observation of symptoms (ADOS-2, CARS-2, MIGDAS-2) in addition parent rating form and reports (SRS-2, ASRS) to help get a complete picture of symptoms.
