FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS ABA THERAPY?

Applied behavior analysis (or ABA for short) is a treatment based on principles of learning such as reinforcement, shaping, chaining, and prompting, among others. Complex skills are broken down and taught in small steps to help promote success. Principles of ABA are also commonly used to help reduce behaviors that are not appropriate and/or pose a risk to safety.

WHATS WITH ALL THE LETTERS AND ABBREVIATIONS?

There are a number of certifications offered to individuals who practice ABA. The term BCBA is an abbreviation for a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, who is an individual certified at the master's level to practice ABA nationally. BCBA's manage a client's treatment and supervise direct care staff. The term COBA is short for Certified Ohio Behavior Analyst, who is someone who has a license to practice ABA in the state of Ohio. An RBT, or Registered Behavior Technician, is the individual who works 1 on 1 directly implementing ABA therapy.

DO YOU OFFER DIAGNOSTIC OR EVALUATION SERVICES?

Yes! Progressive ABA Therapy Group provides diagnostic assessment services for developmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, language disorder, and other issues. Assessments are overseen by Dr. Kris Brown, who is a licensed clinical psychologist, Certified Ohio Behavior Analyst (COBA), and Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D).

HOW DO I PAY FOR SERVICES?

Our team will work with your family to determine potential funding sources that may be available to help cover the cost of therapy. Many health insurance plans include ABA therapy as a covered benefit. We will work with you to determine your eligibility and overall out of pocket costs. For individuals who do not have insurance coverage for ABA therapy, alternative funding sources such as scholarships or grants may be available. We also work with all Ohio Medicaid Programs, which provide coverage for ABA services. Progressive ABA Therapy Group also offers a sliding fee schedule for self-pay services.

IS PROGRESSIVE ABA THERAPY GROUP A SCHOOL?

Progressive ABA is not a school. We are a treatment center that provides both educational and medically necessary services to children with autism spectrum disorder. Many clients do attend Progressive ABA for 25-40 hours per week when parents choose to place their child at Progressive ABA instead of traditional school placements to receive intense therapeutic services. Feel free to contact us for more information.
